This week I want to talk about something I think we all can relate to. From pre-teens, to teens and from young adults to older adults. We all have cell phones these days, or most of us do. Or maybe we are always in a hurry in the morning or have to eat quick so we leave with food to eat on the way to work or school. Whatever the case...these are all distractions.
Now, you've heard stories about how people have texted, used their phone, applied make-up, or have taken their eyes off the road for two seconds and have ended up in an accident that's caused serious injury and even death. I recently heard of a student running a stop light and got into an accident and passed away. I didn't know her, but she was a friend of my friend. It was said she was texting.
The other day, I read in a magazine about dangerous distractions while driving. And last night I dreamt of distractions while driving. I believe that was God telling me raise more awareness in our group here. This all ties in, I believe, to the way we lives our lives for Christ. We all have busy lives, we all have things to do, but there are days where we even tune God out completely and expect things to be perfect. Yet, when things are going downhill, your heart isn't in the right place, sometimes that's because we ignore God and would rather pay more attention to the world than Him.
Simply playing video games over reading your Bible for ten minutes can be a distraction. Not really paying attention to conviction can be a distraction. Maybe God told you to do something and you ignored it because you had other things to do. A lot of the time we tend to just let our relationship with God fizzle because of our every day lives. But I want you to know that He wants a relationship with all of you! He wants you to give Him your all and acknowledge that He is there helping. Maybe say a quick prayer every morning thanking Him for life.
Thanking Him for what He's given you yesterday, today and tomorrow, because even if we are careful and safe drivers, there are others out there sending a text rather than watching the road. You never know what will happen. So if you haven't told somebody how much they mean to you, tell them right now! Call them, go to their house. You never know what will happen. We all tend to take life for granted and forget our blessings.
In Psalm 119:15 it says: I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.
To me, that says to focus on what God wants us to do. To obey Him in all of our ways. Sure, we may get distracted but just know God is there for you no matter what. He can give you all you need. Rest, love, assurance, happiness. So today let's focus more on Him and be thankful for what we have because we never know what's going to happen! And if you're distracted while driving, be courteous of others and yourself...
Genesis 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.”
When we are distracted in our relationship with Christ, we are more prone to Satan's attacks. We have the power to rule over it thanks to our Father in Heaven.
So the next time you are distracted while driving, make a choice. Is it more important to check that text or change that CD? Or is your life more important? God has plans for you! I'm pretty positive He'd want us to live as long for Him as we can! Drive safely!
